Description
The EExREC Assessment Tool Complete Suite offers leaders and teachers a robust and useful Reception Baseline Assessment, a Beyond Baseline mid-year review, and detailed end-of-year information to support and inform transition into Year 1, and evaluate the quality of the Reception Year.
EExREC is a unique early years assessment tool as it considers the child’s developmental age, alongside typical attainment expectations. Each EExREC assessment tool aims to support practitioners with gathering an accurate insight into the children’s levels of Well-being and Involvement, their Characteristics of Effective Learning, along with their knowledge and skills across the EYFS curriculum.
The broad and holistic picture of information collected at each assessment point can be used to recognise children’s, class or cohort strengths and next steps in learning, whilst also supporting the facilitation of professional reflection and evaluation to inform teaching, curriculum, practice and provision.
The assessment suite begins with the EExREC Baseline Assessment, this assessment supplements the RBA and offers practitioners a broad, useful and in-depth understanding of each child’s start point as they commence their Reception year. Practitioners and Reception teachers can use this information to develop a clear narrative around individual, class and cohort start points in your school context. They can then use the information to refine the curriculum, inform provision and shape practice to respond to the needs of the children so that they get off to the best start.
In February, practitioners can undertake the EExREC Beyond Baseline Assessment to carefully consider which children need what and why. The teachers can draw on professional knowledge of each child to make informed judgements against the set of mid-year milestone statements. Progress, attainment and the age and stage of each child should be considered to ensure that targeted support, tailored teaching and revisions to practice and provision have impact. The information that this assessment gives you is to ensure that children are supported to be as well placed as possible by the end of the academic year.
At the end of the Reception year, practitioners should carry out a final assessment, the EExREC Supporting Transition to Year 1. This early years assessment tool will ascertain a true end-of-EYFS picture of attainment with granular detail about children’s achievements and next steps to supplement the EYFS profile and support the Year 1 receiving team. Crucially, this final tool in the suite provides critical information, enabling practitioners to understand and narrate children’s progress from start points.
Using the complete early years assessment suite will enable staff to become familiar with child development, principled assessment, and manageable assessment routines, which always give rise to the question, ‘So What’, enabling teachers to be reflective of and responsive to the assessment information gathered.
